This animation presents the second-order counterbalances which rotate in the same direction as the crankshaft at twice its speed, balancing out the "two per rev" vibrations that result from the varying rod geometry. These counterbalances gave the R-2800 its reputation for smooth running. They are shown in yellow, along with the gear trains that drive them.
